Breguet

Breguet is a luxury Swiss watch company founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet. Breguet was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland and later moved to Paris, where he established his own workshop and became a respected watchmaker and inventor. He developed several innovations in watchmaking, including the self-winding mechanism and the first wristwatch, which he made for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples in 1810.
Throughout its history, Breguet has been known for producing high-quality, innovative timepieces, many of which were commissioned by royalty and other prestigious clients. In the early 19th century, Breguet’s watches were worn by such notable figures as Napoleon Bonaparte and King George III of England.
In 1833, Breguet’s son Louis-Antoine took over the company, and in 1851, it was passed down to his son, Louis Clément. In 1870, the company was acquired by Charles Constantin, a former employee who had worked his way up through the ranks. Under Constantin’s leadership, Breguet continued to produce highly respected timepieces, including the first wristwatch with a perpetual calendar in 1892.
In 1970, the company was purchased by the Swiss Swatch Group, which continues to operate Breguet today. Despite its acquisition by a large corporation, Breguet has maintained its reputation for producing high-quality, innovative timepieces, and remains a respected name in the world of luxury watches.
