Founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Ulysse Nardin is known in both the watchmaking and the nautical worlds for its highly accurate, highly complicated marine chronometers, which were used by over fifty of the world’s navies throughout the 1900s. Today, the company produces similarly complicated luxurious timepieces targeted at those who value individuality and character above all else, and whose second home is the stormy Ocean. The Dual Time Manufacture is an unusually understated timepiece to see from Ulysse Nardin. Its aesthetics mirror those of traditional deck chronometers to a certain extent, so they successfully communicate its ties to marine engineering and naval warfare, but its sleek silhouette and restrained design give it a far more civilized, worldly bearing than most other models. The dial retains its distinct asymmetrical layout but is more subdued than is typical of UN, showcasing a fine sunburst finish and a set of contrasting indices and elegant skeletonized hands. The 42 mm case is rather minimalist and comes polished to a shine, which further highlights the watch’s balanced proportions. Thanks to the high-quality semi-integrated croco strap, the Dual Time Manufacture fits snugly around the wrist and wears very comfortably. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that it pairs well with both casual and dressier attire.
