Rolex Explorer I 39 ref. 214270 – MK1 dial, 2010-2016 (Random serial), Polished per OEM specs

The Rolex Explorer has been evolving for over half a century, but its foundational principles have remained unchanged – simplicity, reliability, and adaptability. It’s a sports watch, that much is clear, but thanks to its clean lines and sleek silhouette, it feels as much at home in the boardroom or the bar as it does on the mountainside. The latter, coincidentally, is where the Explorer earned its reputation – Rolex designed it for testing on Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary’s 1953 expedition to Mount Everest. The ref. 1655 that Norgay wore can still be seen at the Beyer Museum in Zurich, Switzerland, which many consider an important site of horological pilgrimage.

The watch on offer here, the ref. 214270 Rolex Explorer I, is often cited as one of the most influential sports watches of all time. It takes after the watch that pretty much defined what we think of as a mountaineering timepiece, and that has to do with more than just its history. Its high-contrast dial – here the MK1 version (made between 2010 and 2016 – the 3, 6, 9 numerals are not filled with lume as in the MK2 version), Chromalight markers, scratch-resistant Oystersteel bracelet, and waterproof case all make it perfect for avid mountaineers and brave spelunkers, who have consistently chosen it over the alternatives. Indeed, few watches look so much at home amongst the rocks and the snowy hills as does the Explorer.
The ref. 214270 is powered by the caliber 3132 – a 31-jewel self-winding movement that ticks at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 48 hours. It features a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers and is, naturally, a Certified Superlative Chronometer.

Our offering is in superb condition – just polished per OEM specs, regrettably comes as watch only. Ticking per specs.

Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
