IWC Pilot Mark XVI ref. IW325501 – Polished per OEM Specs, Superb

When IWC introduced the Mark 11 in 1948, the British Ministry of Defence described it as “a highly accurate timepiece suitable for astronavigation purposes” – a statement that the RAF would famously go on to prove by using it to calculate the exact positions of their aircraft. In light of its history, it is hardly surprising that many collectors consider the Mark 11 one of the most significant watches in military history. As its worthy successor, the watch on offer here celebrates IWC’s close partnership with the British navy.
The Pilot Mark XVI comes outfitted with a stainless steel case that mirrors the balanced proportions of the Mark 11 but whose size has been increased to a modern 39 mm. The dial is straightforward and legible and follows traditional Flieger design, yet is it is more reminiscent of a retro aircraft instrument than of its predecessor per se. And while the Mark 11 has quite a generous profile, the Mark XVI measures barely 11.5 mm thick, so it wears comfortably and fits under the cuff without effort. Unlike most pilot’s watches, it even features a stealthy date display aT 3 o’clock.
The Pilot Marx XVI is powered by the automatic caliber 30110, which is ticking accurately behind the solid caseback.
Our offering is in superb condition – was just professionally polished per OEM specs. It comes without any boxes or papers and is outfitted with its original black strap.
