Founded in 1955, Montres Corum Sàrl – commonly referred to simply as Corum – is known for its high-quality limited edition watches. While many companies have tried and failed at the Limited Edition business model, Corum has not only succeeded but has garnered critical acclaim in doing so. That is largely thanks to its boldly designed watches, which draw inspiration from everything from sporting events to historical figures and mythical creatures. The one on offer here is dedicated to the Admiral’s Cup regatta – the unofficial offshore racing world championship – after which Corum’s flagship series is named.
This rendition of the eponymous model is all black themed – it has a Black PVD coated Titanium case topped by a dodecagonal bezel, black dial and black strap. Measuring 48 mm in diameter, you’d think the watch is too large, but thanks to its relatively short lugs, it wears well even on smaller wrists. Its dial commemorates the prestigious Admiral’s Cup regatta by incorporating inverted nautical flags on the inner bezel, which serve as hour indices in addition to the large Rose Gold Roman numerals for the minutes. Other features include a day and date complication at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, both of which are powered by the caliber CO 690 – a 25-jewel automatic movement based on the Valjoux cal. 7750 that boasts a power reserve of 42 hours.
