Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenger Chronograph 44 Rose Gold & Steel ref. 753.771.24/0F61 AK16 – Mint, Full set

Founded in 1955, Montres Corum Sàrl – commonly referred to simply as Corum – is widely recognized for its highly luxurious, over-the-top timepieces. A mere glance at the manufacturer’s catalog says everything you need to know about its design department, which draws inspiration from anything from sporting events to historical figures and even mythical creatures. The Admiral line – to which the watch on offer here belongs – celebrates the brand’s ties to the prestigious Admiral’s cup regatta while simultaneously showcasing its devotion to exciting watchmaking.

This Admiral’s Cup Challenger comes equipped with a 44 mm steel case topped by a dodecagonal rose gold bezel, which in turn is complemented by a rose gold screw-in crown. The skeletonized hour and minute hands, as well as the hour indices and sub-dial hands, are also fashioned out of gold, backdropped by a graphite dial adorned with a vertical texture that allows the golden elements to shine that much brighter against it. The black leather strap, therefore, is the only logical decision – it suits both the steel and the rose gold but at the same time lets the graphite dial take center stage.
Inside, visible through the display caseback, the gold rotor of the in-house cal. CO 753 is gently swinging from side to side. As you probably know, gold is cute a bit heavier than steel (since it’s almost two-and-a-half times denser than it) and is thus the perfect material for a rotor.
