The history of Breguet spans four (4) centuries and is so rich in inventions and innovations that it represents a substantial part of the entire history of Swiss watchmaking.
Thanks to watches such as the one on offer here, it’s quite easy to appreciate why the brand is regarded as one of the most important manufacturers in Haute Horlogerie.
The Breguet ref. 3810ST/92/SZ9 Type XXI Transatlantique comes equipped with a robust stainless steel case measuring 42.5 mm in diameter and 15.4 mm in thickness. Because of the unique shape and width of its unidirectional rotating bezel, the watch appears somewhat larger than its dimensions would have you think. Having been made of ruthenium – a material rarely used in watchmaking – the dial changes from brownish to greyish depending on how the light hits it. It features a running seconds register at 9, a chronograph hour register at 6, a trapezoid-shaped date window at 6, and a 24-hour indicator at 3 o’clock. The seconds and minutes for the chronograph are indicated by two centrally-mounted hands coupled with a scale imprinted on the outer ring. The agrressive Arabic numerals, along with the diamond-shaped markers, stand out from the dial, tying the overall design together beautifully.
Inside, behind the engraved caseback, the in-hose caliber 584 Q/2 is confidently ticking away.
