Fortis
The Fortis watch company was founded in 1912 in Grenchen, Switzerland by Walter Vogt. The company initially produced pocket watches, but quickly expanded to produce wristwatches as well. In the 1930s, Fortis began to focus on producing watches for pilots, including the development of the first automatic chronograph wristwatch in 1954. In the 1960s, Fortis began to produce watches for the Russian space program, including the first automatic chronograph worn in space by a cosmonaut in 1979. In the 1980s, the company expanded its product line to include diving watches and chronographs. Today, Fortis continues to produce a wide range of high-quality timepieces for a variety of professions, including aviation, space, and diving.
