In 1861, Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law, Jakob Zeller-Tobler, started a watch parts manufacture, which would end up supplying some of the best German and Swiss watchmakers of the time. Nevertheless, it wasn’t long before the duo had had enough of living in the shadows of their clients, so in 1866 they began making their own clocks and watches. By the turn of the century, Junghans had already become a household name, yet most of the brand’s finest achievements still lay ahead. The watch on offer here celebrates one of those achievements.
Around the end of the 1950s, the German watchmaker came up with the idea of collaborating with an influential contemporary artist, so when the opportunity presented itself, they were quick to hire the famous architect, sculptor, and painter, Max Bill. Having trained in the Bauhaus style under Walter Gropius, there was simply no better man for the job. As a result of his education, Max Bill’s design philosophy alleged that nothing frivolous, flamboyant, or impractical should have a place in art, and it is precisely this philosophy that defined the Junghans Max Bill.
Junghans re-released the Max Bill collection in 2010, staying true to its author’s original vision, which so perfectly encapsulated the shifting Zeitgeist of 1960s’ Europe. The model incorporates the Bauhaus principles of clean lines & straightforward geometry, sports a legible, easy-to-read dial, and features a domed acrylic crystal, which makes the beautiful dial pop. The case is made from mate finished stainless steel and has an remarkably thin profile, which further underlines its sophisticated elegance. Inside, the self-winding cal. J800.1 ticks assuredly, boasting a power reserve of 42 hours.
Our offering is brand new & comes in a full set of boxes and papers, outfitted with its original beige leather strap.
The watch is covered by 2 years of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.

At ChronoTimepieces, we take great pride in the quality and authenticity of our watches.
Every watch undergoes a thorough inspection process to ensure that it is in fully-authentic condition, both externally and internally. This includes checking all components for authenticity and functionality, as well as servicing and testing where needed.
All of our modern watches are carefully inspected and serviced where needed to ensure that they are in excellent condition and ready to be worn and enjoyed for many years to come. We only source our from reputable dealers, private sellers and manufacturers and we take great care to ensure that they are authentic, with non-questinable origins and have not been tampered with in any way.
For our vintage watches, we go above and beyond to ensure that they are in excellent condition and have not been tampered with over the years. We check each vintage watch against our database of original examples to ensure that no components have been replaced or tampered with, and we try our best to only use OEM parts for servicing.
We understand that many vintage watches sold online have been re-dialed, overpolished, or have movement parts with questionable origins, so we are committed to upholding the highest standards of authenticity and quality in our vintage watches. If there are any exceptions to this, we will always disclose them in the descriptive text for the respective timepiece.
In addition to our commitment to authenticity, we also offer a 1-year warranty on all of our watches. This gives you peace of mind and confidence in your purchase, knowing that if any issues arise within the first year after purchase, we will be happy to repair or replace the watch.
