Designed to enable the wearer to tell the time in two different time zones simultaneously, the GMT-Master was developed as a navigation instrument for professionals traveling the globe. Its combination of effortless functionality, robustness, and instantly recognizable aesthetics has made it a horological and cultural icon, which, over the last few decades, has blossomed into one of Rolex’s most diverse collections.
The ref. 116710LN is a special part of that collection, and it pays subtle homage to a lesser-known 1970’s GMT master, which featured a black aluminum bezel. Much like it, it features an all-black bezel, but this time reinterpreted in Cerachrome, which in turn gives it its unfading colors and gorgeous luster. Yes, doing away with the colored segment on the bezel has somewhat reduced legibility as it isn’t so easy to tell which timezone is which, but the watch’s aesthetics more than make up for that – it’s impossible to deny that the combination of the black dial and the black bezel is staggeringly sexy. The color accent comes in the form of a green arrow-tipped GMT hand and matching script, and it ties the design together wonderfully.
The ref. 116710LN is powered by the caliber 3186 – an automatic dual-time superlative chronometer movement.
