In 2005, the US Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, famously known as Top Gun, awarded IWC an exclusive license to produce timepieces under the Top Gun label. The first watches within this collection were introduced as part of the IWC Pilot’s Watch family in 2007. The primary goal was to create timepieces suited for the elite pilots undergoing the demanding nine-week Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) program, and as far as the IW326901 is concerned, that goal has been achieved.

The Pilot Top Gun comes equipped with a Ceratanium case that echoes the balanced proportions of the Mark 11, albeit increased to a modern – yet balanced – 41 mm in diameter. A deep, not entirely black, tactical, matte hue – reminiscent of the technical components found in supersonic jets: Ceratanium® embodies the color of an ingeniously crafted material produced through an intricate – and proprietary – manufacturing process. The dial, following traditional Flieger design principles, is straightforward and legible, reminiscent of a retro aircraft instrument. In contrast to its predecessors, this models has a more understated profile, measuring a mere 11.4 mm thick, ensuring comfortable wear and easy accommodation under a cuff. Diverging from the traditional pilot’s watch, it discreetly incorporates a date display at 3 o’clock.

Tucked safely behind the solid caseback is the 32111 Caliber – a self-winding movement with a power reserve of 120 hours and a frequency of 28,800 VPH (4 Hz). It is meticulously crafted with 164 components and incorporates 21 jewels for precision and reliability.
