Vintage Seiko Chronograph ref. 6138-0040 Bullhead – 1976, Original dial & hands, Serviced

When it comes to iconic watches from the ’70s, you’d be hard-pressed to find one more recognizable and sought-after than the 6138-0040 Bullhead. The source of its popularity (or of its cool nickname) isn’t particularly difficult to identify either – a bohemian case design paired with a blue-black color scheme, organized around one of the sturdiest and most reliable chronograph movements ever produced, the in-house caliber 6138. As alluring as its looks are, however, it wasn’t just aesthetics that drove them – it was functionality. More specifically, the pushers and crown were placed at the 12 o’clock position so as to prevent accidental activation of the chronograph complication. The movement inside is famous for being able to operate for upwards of a decade without needing a service, and this one was just serviced by our watchmaker in 08.2022, so it’s ticking as resolutely as ever.

The condition of the case, dial, and bezel is quite good as well, despite them showing some minor nicks and hairlines and missing some of the writings on the dial. Truth be told, this is one of the better, all original examples we’ve come across over the last 10 years. Comes on a quality newly made replacement bracelet.
