Neither Rolex nor its flagship, the Submariner, need much in the way of introductions. Suffice it to say that it was the Sub that singlehandedly set the standard for what we refer to as a dive watch today, and that’s by no means a small feat. What’s more, few timepieces are as recognizable or as sought-after as it is, and that’s twice as true for the one we have the pleasure of being able to offer here.
The ref. 124060 is the latest in a long line of successors to the original 1953 Submariner. Its iconic design, as you can see, has remained virtually unchanged throughout the years, but that’s one of the many things that make it special. Plus, its relatively unvarying nature makes any change that does occur seem that much more significant. That’s precisely why a 1 mm size increase had the watch world up in arms when it was first announced – the Sub’s 40 mm size was one of the things that defined it for so long! The lugs have also been modified and are now more slender, which makes for a sleeker overall look. What’s more, their slightly incurved shape adds to the piece’s already-impressive interaction with the light – an area Rolex has always excelled in, as we are sure our photos will testify. The bracelet has also undergone a slight size increase, with the end-links now measuring 1 mm bigger and a somewhat wider clasp.
The Sub No-Date is powered by the latest generation caliber 3235 self-winding movement, which boasts a power reserve of 70 hours and features Paraflex shock absorbers, a Parachrom Blue hairspring, а Chronenergy escapement, and a Paramagnetic Oscillator balance.
