Gerald Genta’s legacy is like no other.
A self-taught designer, he is behind some of the most emblematic timepieces in watchdom, including the AP Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the Omega Constellation, the IWC Ingenieur, the Universal Geneve Polerouter, and – last but not least – the Bvlgari Octo. As it so happens, it is precisely Bvlgari that we have to thank for that company still being around today. Together with Genta’s wife and daughter, the brand has been keeping his vision alive ever since they acquired Gerald Genta SA in early 2000. The watch on offer here is definitive proof of their respect and reverence for this brilliant artist.
The Retro Sport 38 can be described as a highlight reel of Genta’s best work and – despite not having been designed by him – would have without a doubt put a smile on his face. Everything about it – from the familiar dial to the traditionalist round case – traces its inspiration to some aspect of his brilliant work. What’s more, not only is it aesthetically flawless, it is also quite impressive technically. Retrograde Minutes is a notoriously difficult complication to pull of, but the in-house cal. GA4700 renders it spectacularly. The cherry on top, the dial incorporates an array of black diamonds that contrast its red numerals.
Our offering is in superb condition – just polished per OEM specs and comes outfitted with the original manta ray leather strap. Ticking per specs.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
