Despite not boasting a centuries-long history, Romain Jerome has had a notable impact on the world of watchmaking. Founded in 2004, the brand has managed to carve out a place for itself among its seniors in a rather short time. RJ’s watches star radical designs and employ an array of cutting-edge materials, which together make them both horologically exciting and aesthetically pleasing.
The watch on offer here – the Romain Jerome Titanic DNA Five – incorporates several of the brand’s most recognizable elements, including the clawed ceramic bezel and the welded lugs. The 46 mm case is fashioned out of Steel, Titanium & Rose Gold that is left visible on the sides, with the rest of the watch covered in an ultra-hard PVD coating. The dial, however, is the most interesting part – it owes its color and texture to coal recovered straight from the wreckage of the Titanic! Much cooler than meteorite dials and the likes, if you ask us. The hands, meanwhile, take after the design of the Titanic’s anchor, and the numerals and dial layout reflect the style of the period.
Inside, behind the engraved caseback, the caliber C22RJ51 is resolutely ticking away.
