Vintage Seiko Flyback Chronograph ref. 7016-7000 – Serviced, 1977, Black dial with Blue accents

In 1972, just three years after it had unveiled one of, if not the first automatic chronograph movement, Seiko introduced the most technically fascinating caliber of its time – the 17-jewel 7016. To this day, watchmakers still praise the ingenuity and craftsmanship that went into creating this little mechanical wonder, and watches powered by said wonder remain as sought after as ever.
The one on offer here is among the cooler examples we’ve recently come across – one whose scruffy appearance underscores its exquisite aesthetic characteristics. The cherry on top – like all 7016’s, it was made in the famed Daini Seikosha factory.
This ref. 7016-7000 Flyback Chronograph comes equipped with a 39 mm case that retains its original finishing – its scars and wear only adding to its charm – thanks to never having been polished. Its matt-black dial and inner bezel are enlivened by a light-blue print, while the steel baton hands and applied indices contrast the dark backdrop. Just like the case, the dial is in original condition, having never been repainted or otherwise tampered with.
One of the defining peculiarities of the 7016 is the subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock, which serves a remarkable double purpose – its white hand counts 30 or 60 elapsed minutes while the blue one underneath counts elapsed hours up to 12. Other features include a flyback complication, a quick-set date, and a day-of-the-week display adjusted by pushing the crown in.
Our offering is in very good condition – shows some normal wear for a vintage piece and the original glass has some minor damage on the edge, but the watch was just serviced by our in-house watchmaker in 11.2021 and is ticking perfectly. It comes outfitted with a quality leather strap.
