Founded in 1955, Montres Corum Sàrl – commonly referred to simply as Corum – is known for its high-quality limited edition watches. While many companies have tried and failed at the Limited Edition business model, Corum has not only succeeded but has garnered critical acclaim in doing so. That is largely thanks to its boldly designed watches, which draw inspiration from anything from sporting events to historical figures and mythical creatures. The one on offer here was produced in a limited run of 50 pieces in celebration of Corum’s 50th anniversary, and it is without a doubt the brand’s most horologically impressive piece.
The ref 113.550.55/0001 0000R (also known as 05.0001 or simply 113.550.55) comes equipped with a tonneau case fashioned from 18k Rose Gold and featuring a transparent caseback and transparent sides cut from high-durability synthetic Sapphire. Housed within is the extraordinary Calibre 7000 “Golden Bridge” – a hand-engraved 18k Gold Baguette movement that boasts a power reserve of 40 hours. Originally designed by the legendary Vincent Calabrese in the late 1970s and serialized in limited quantities since 1980, the Golden Bridge is one of Corum’s hallmarks. This modern update to the ’80s masterpiece is true to the concept and craftsmanship standards of the original while offering enhanced case dimensions for a more modern wrist presence. What’s more, the 19-jewel movement has been upgraded with a free-sprung balance, which results in increased timing precision.
The watch is in very good condition, was very well taken care of by previous owner, but has a small flaw on the crystal – a dot around 3 o’clock – very hard to spot and not really bothering to the eye. It comes with its original box, but without any of its original papers. Ticking per specs.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
