Of all the complications out there, the Regatta Yachttimer is definitely among the most unique. You see, when getting set to race, boats can’t hover at the starting line quite like cars can, so the skipper (the captain) needs a reliable way to plan the movement of his vessel after the 15-minute countdown has commenced. Some of the manufacturers that have tackled this task include Lemania, Felsa, and – more recently – Rolex, but the watch on offer here employs a very different approach to measuring this interval than any of them.
Under the Memosail’s dial, there revolves an indicator disk divided into 15 one-minute segments, of which 5 are shown through the aperture at any given time. The first 5-minute segment is yellow, the second – green, and, when the 15-minute countdown has finished, the display reads START in green upper-case letters. This impressive horological feat is accomplished by the cal. 7737 – a modified 7733 developed by Valjoux especially for Memosail under their mutual parent company, Ebauches SA, which would go on to become ETA in 1985. The movement was serviced by our in-house watchmaker in 10.2021 and is in full working order.
This iteration of the Memosail dates to circa 1975 and is in excellent condition, despite showing some signs of wear along the case’s backside. It comes outfitted with a dark-blue leather strap that complements the dial.
Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
