Vintage Seiko Chronograph Bullhead SpeedTimer JDM ref. 6138-0040 – 1977, Serviced, OEM Bracelet

When it comes to iconic watches from the ’70s, you’d be hard-pressed to find one more recognizable and sought-after than the Bullhead. The source of its popularity (or of its cool nickname) isn’t particularly difficult to identify either – a bohemian case design paired with a chocolate-brown color scheme with golden accents, organized around one of the sturdiest and most reliable chronograph movements ever produced, the in-house caliber 6138. As alluring as its looks are, however, it wasn’t just aesthetics that drove them – it was functionality. More specifically, the pushers and crown were placed at the 12 o’clock position so as to prevent accidental activation of the chronograph complication. The movement inside is famous for being able to operate for upwards of a decade without needing a service, and this one was just serviced by our watchmaker, so it’s ticking as resolutely as ever. The condition of the case, bracelet, dial, and bezel is quite good as well, despite them showing some minor nicks and hairlines. Truth be told, this is one of the better examples we’ve come across over the last 10 years, plus it comes outfitted with its original and rare Speedtimer bracelet. As expected the dial version is the rare JDM one – 6138-0071T.
The watch was just serviced by our in-house watchmaker and is ticking accurately.
