Panerai Luminor 1950 GMT 42 ref. PAM01535 – Paris Hobnails dial, 2019, Full set

In 1860 Officine Panerai started life as a watchmaker’s shop, which, rather unusually, also sold maritime equipment. Years later, in the early 1900s, the brand became the official supplier for the Italian Frogmen, who famously wore their watches – designed by Panerai and partly produced by Rolex SA – while riding torpedos towards docked enemy ships! As you can imagine, a legible and dependable underwater instrument was an absolute must for the Frogmen, and that’s precisely what Panerai provided. The brand also supplied the Royal Italian Navy with all manner of technical equipment and precision instruments, hence further cementing its place in horological history.
Since Panerai tends to follow a similar design language for all of its watches, the watch on offer here – the PAM01535 – strongly resembles its predecessors. Its large cushion-shaped 1950 case and protruding crown guard are both considered defining staples of Panerai design, and it’s not at all hard to see why they’re so beloved by the Paneristi. The black Paris hobnail dial also echoes the classic Panerai look – it even features a faux-patina on the hands and indices – but it introduces a GMT hand to the typical complication layout. The movement inside, the in-house P.9011, boasts a 72-hour power reserve and operates at 28,800 bph. This beautiful manually-wound movement is visible through the display caseback and is ticking per spec.
Our offering is in very good condition (shows some minor hairpins as it has never been polished) comes in a full set of boxes and papers, and is equipped with a quality aftermarket strap (the original strap is also present, but worn).
