In 1860, Officine Panerai started life as a watchmaker’s shop where the brand’s founder, Giovani Panerai, would also sell maritime equipment. Years later, in the early 1900s, Panerai became the official supplier for the Italian Frogmen, who famously used the brand’s watches – partially designed and produced by Rolex SA – to time and synchronize attacks and, occasionally, mount torpedoes that they would steer to bring down docked enemy ships. A dependable and legible underwater instrument was an absolute must for the Frogmen, and that’s exactly what Panerai provided. The brand also supplied the Royal Italian Navy with all manner of technical equipment and precision instruments, thus further cementing its place in history.
Since Panerai tends to follow a similar design language for all of its watches, the watch on offer here – the Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT ref. PAM00335 – strongly resembles its iconic predecessors. Its large 1950 cushion-shaped case and protruding crown guard are both considered defining staples of Panerai design, and it’s not at all hard to see why they’re so beloved by fans. Not only do they let anyone within 10 feet know that you’re wearing a Panerai, but they also dispel any doubts he or she might harbor regarding your watch’s robustness. Here they’re both made out of ceramic, which is three times harder than steel, yet rivals aluminum in its lightness. Thanks to the brand’s patented luminescent material, Radiomir, the tacti-cool dial is legible in all conditions and settings. In addition to the Arabic numerals and hour indices, it features a date display at 3 o’clock, a linear power reserve indicator at 6, and a GMT indicator at 9. Back when Panerai watches used to be produced by Rolex, the only part that Panerai made was the distinctive dial – a testament to its exceptional qualities. The Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT ref. PAM00335 is powered by the in-house cal. P.2003 – a 25-jewel self-winding movement that beats at 28,000 A/h and boasts a power reserve of the impressive 240 hours. Our offering is in excellent condition, very fresh, ticking per specs, comes with box, on its original leather strap.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty, starting on the date of purchase.
