Seiko Astron GPS Solar 47mm SBXA009

Controversial upon its introduction in 1969, the Astron marked a pivotal moment as the first quartz wristwatch, ushering in a new era in watchmaking that garnered mixed reactions. Over the years, Seiko’s Astron has evolved with technological advancements, adapting and refining its features. In 2012, Seiko made history again with the release of the first solar-powered GPS watch – the SBXA009.

Crafted from steel, this round-shaped case timepiece comes in at 47mm in diameter with some considerable thickness, which means that you will feel its reassuring weight on your wrist. However, thanks to its short lugs, you don’t have to be Andre the Giant to wear it. In fact, it fits smaller wrists quite nicely. A ceramic bezel encircles the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, enhanced with Seiko’s Super-Clear® coating. With water resistance up to 100 meters and magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m, it exemplifies resilience, and its 100 m water resistance means that it is as functional as it is appealing. Speaking of functionality, The multi-functional idnicator at 9 o’clock conveys the number of satellites (1 or 4+) during the setting process. Additionally, it functions as a power reserve indicator, displaying the battery level from ‘E’ (empty) to ‘F’ (full). Furthermore, it serves as an airplane mode indicator, a crucial feature to prevent inadvertent GPS activation during flights. Lastly, it acts as a daylight savings time indicator, allowing users to toggle between on/off settings as needed. Othere functions include: World Time, Power Saving and Perpetual Calendar.
