Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante Chronograph 44 ref. PAM00213 – Flyback

In 1860, Officine Panerai started life as a watchmakerโ€™s shop, which, somewhat unusually, also sold maritime equipment. Decades later, at the turn of the 20th century, the brand became the official supplier of the Italian Frogmen, who famously wore their watches โ€“ developed in collaboration with Rolex SA – while riding atop torpedos aimed at docked enemy ships. They would then attach limpet mines to those ships and try to make it back in time to avoid the explosions that followed. As you can imagine, a legible and dependable timekeeping device was an absolute must for these specialized soldiers, so that’s exactly what Panerai provided. The brand also supplied the Royal Italian Navy with a wide array of precision instruments, which further cemented its place in horological and military history.

The PAM00213 Rattrapante Chronograph features a Panerai’s emblematic Luminor 1950 steel case, here in 44 mm. The matte black dial offers a typical chronograph design – small seconds at 9 o’clock, chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock and has large luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers that ensure readability even in low light conditions. The rattrapante chronograph function has two center hands, allowing one to measure two events simultaneously.
At the heart of this Pan is the cal. OP XVIII automatic movement with a power reserve of 42 hours and 31 jewels. The intricate details of it are observable from the display caseback.
In summary, the Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante Chronograph is a watch that combines the brand’s maritime heritage with functional design and precision engineering. Whether you’re a sailing enthusiast or simply appreciate robust timepieces, this watch is sure to make a statement.
