Rolex The New Explorer II ref. 226570 Polar (White dial) – NEW

The Rolex Explorer has been evolving for over half a century, but its foundational principles have remained unchanged throughout the decades – simplicity, reliability, and adaptability. It’s a sports watch, that much is clear, but thanks to its pure design and sleek silhouette, it feels as much at home in the boardroom or the bar as it does on the mountainside. Of course, the latter is where the Explorer earned its reputation, having adorned the wrists of Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary on their 1953 expedition to Mount Everest. The ref. 1655 that Norgay wore can still be seen at the Beyer Museum in Zurich, Switzerland.

Just like the ones that came before it, the latest Explorer II features an arrow-shaped 24-hour hand that points to a fixed bezel with 24-hour graduations. This enables the wearer to distinguish between the hours of the day and the hours of the night or use it as a GMT hand.
On this newest iteration a set of more slender lugs make for a sleeker overall look, and the lugs’ slightly incurved shape adds to the watch’s already-impressive interaction with the light. The crown guars have also been made slimmer, and their angle has been made slightly sharper. The finish of the case remains unchanged, but the sapphire crystal and the cyclops date magnifier have received a layer of anti-reflective coating on the inside, where it won’t accrue any scratches. The new Explorer II also received the latest, wider version of the Oyster bracelet, which comes equipped with the new Oysterlock folding clasp. The latter closes more securely and feels thinner on the wrist, while the Easylink comfort extension allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by up to 5 mm. Additionally, the end-links measure 1 mm bigger than before.
By far the most significant among the changes is the new in-house caliber 3285, which operates at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 72 hours and features a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers and is, naturally, a Certified Superlative Chronometer. This specific one is the white dial version known as Polar which makes the full reference number – 226570-0001.
