Created in 1945, the Datejust was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date at the 3 o’clock position. Its pioneering aesthetic has since had an enormous cultural impact and, along with its revolutionary features, has elevated the model to the status of a horological icon. To put it plainly – the Datejust is the seminal classic watch.
The version on offer here – ref. 126334-0021 – represents a contemporary take on the timeless concept. This specific dial variation is known as the Wimbledon because of its similarity to the colorway of the eponymous tennis tournament’s logo, and it is among the most sought-after modern Datejusts. The watch features a 41 mm stainless steel Oyster case, which provides water resistance down to 100 m (330 feet), topped by a smooth mirror-polished bezel. The grey dial showcases a beautiful sunray texture, which serves as the perfect backdrop for the black-on-green Roman numerals and luminous baton hands. The asymmetry that the cyclops-magnified date display brings to the design is expertly balanced by a single luminous index at 9 o’clock.
The ref. 126334 is powered by the latest generation caliber 3235 self-winding movement, which boasts a power reserve of 70 hours and features Paraflex shock absorbers, a Parachrom Blue hairspring, a Chronenergy escapement, and a Paramagnetic Oscillator balance.
