Bell & Ross Steel Chronograph ref. BR 03-94-S – Very fresh

Bell & Ross was founded in 1992 by two lifelong friends who shared a vision of functional design – Bruno Belamich (Bell) and Carlos A. Rosillo (Ross). Despite being a little late to the party, the duo quickly distinguished themselves as one of the few truly innovative independent manufacturers around, as well as one of the most idiosyncratic. Their success was driven in equal parts by the aesthetics of their watches as it was by their versatility and toughness, which would become renowned throughout the watch world. Today, Bell & Ross is the official supplier for the French Air Force, the Space Lab Mission, and the Lafayette Escadrille, to name but a few. As it is evidenced by their square cases and round, highly-legible dials, the brand’s timepieces draw inspiration from the military aesthetic.

And indeed, the BR 03-94 is no exception. The model’s symmetrical layout and high-contrast color palette immediately invoke the military look, and its unmistakable square case makes it instantly recognizable as one of Bell & Ross’s creations. The contrasting colors are backdropped by contrasting geometry, which makes the design reminiscent of a jet plane’s instrument panel, and that’s hardly a coincidence. From the very start, the watchmaking duo has had its sights set on pilots and aviator watch enthusiasts, and they have been anything but shy about pursuing their target audience.
