Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 26470ST.OO.A104CR.01 Elephant – 2015, Full set, AD Serviced in 2022

A worthy successor to the legacy of its older Royal Oak brother, the Offshore Chronograph is an experience that is hard to put into words – and that’s a good thing. Just like its predecessor, the model represents a deep yearning for the future, but it nevertheless looks to the past, to the rich history it is part of, with the highest respect.

Released during the SIHH 2014, “The Elephant” is a second-generation Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph that sports a 42 mm case with ceramic pushers and crown and a display caseback. It gets its nickname from its grey-and-black color scheme, which changes dramatically depending on whether it’s admired under natural or artificial light. A chameleon in the truest sense, the watch is fitted with a slate grey Méga Tappisserie dial with black registers and black Arabic numerals covered in a black luminescent coating. Depending on the lighting conditions, the dial will exhibit different gradients of grey and various captivating hues. As for its layout – it is much cleaner than those of older Offshores since the numerals and hands have been made thinner and sharper. It features a running seconds subdial at 12, a 12-hour chronograph subdial at 6, a 30-minute chronograph subdial at 9 o’clock, and a date display at 3 o’clock.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the AP Calibre 3126/3840 is ticking resolutely.
