Introduced in the late 1960s and designed by the legendary Gerald Genta, the Zenith Defy made a lasting impact with its imaginative case architecture, earning it the memorable nickname, “The Safe Of Time.” Genta’s touch, combined with features like shock and water resistance, propelled the Defy into the realm of timeless classics, resonating with the evolving tastes of the tumultuous ’70s.
The Defy has always been an assertive and nonconformist watch, but with the Xtreme Chronograph, that is doubly true. Instead of obsessing over tradition – as watches in its historical position often tend to do – it does away with all the design staples of its predecessors, opting for a bold new look that effortlessly conveys confidence and strength. A 46.5 mm block of PVD-coated titanium, it is surprisingly light yet has an empowering weight that matches its looks. And it does indeed look like nothing else out there, marking a surprisingly free-spirited chapter in Zenith’s history.
As if its case wasn’t unique enough, the dial showcases a mixture of brushed and perlage finishes, as well as a carbon-fiber section in the middle, further enhancing the devil-may-care demeanor of this timepiece, as does the splash of red on the hands and subdials.
Inside, behind the solid caseback, the 4000 SX El Primero, made mostly of the proprietary Zenithium – an exclusive alloy made from aluminum, titanium, and niobium – is ticking confidently away.
Our offering is in fair condition, comes in a full set of boxes and papers, and was just serviced.
