To each their own, but if you ask us, Regatta Timers are the absolute coolest of all watch genres.
You see, when getting set to race, boats can’t hover at the starting line quite like cars can, so the skipper (the captain) needs a reliable way to plan the movement of his vessel after the 15-minute countdown has commenced. Some of the manufacturers that have tackled this difficult task include Lemania, Felsa, and – more recently – Rolex, but the watch on offer here employs a much different approach to measuring this interval than any of them.
Instead of intricate modifications to the movement, the ref. 9804 WAKMANN features a “simple” rotating inner bezel that can be used in conjunction with the chronograph complication to keep track of this 15-minute countdown via the 15, 10, and 5 colored segments. The chronograph, while we’re on the subject, is powered by non-other than the legendary Lemania 1341, which was just serviced by our in-house watchmaker and is ticking per spec.
As far as aesthetics are concerned, the watch certainly leaves very little to be desired. It sports a large 42 mm gold-filled case complemented by a vibrant dial, both following the design trends of the period they were built in – the 1970s. This particular example is in very good, all-original condition, and it comes outfitted with a quality leather racing strap.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
