The Rolex President Day-Date was launched in 1956 as the brand’s flagship, exclusively crafted in precious metal and outfitted with a three-piece Jubilee-style Presidential bracelet. Notably, it was the first waterproof and self-winding chronometer to indicate the day of the week in 26 different languages. As for its illustrious nickname, it got that when Rolex (allegedly) gave one to former President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower. The watch’s case design has remained pretty much unchanged over the years, and the first significant modification to the Day-Date’s functionality came in the form of a hack feature added in 1972.
The specific reference on offer here dates to 1980 and is in superb condition. It has just been professionally polished and looks as fresh as the day it left the AD. The gold dial’s sunburst is really like no other, and the luster of the fluted bezel is just as otherwordly. But you already knew all that.
Inside, tucked away behind the safety of the caseback, the remarkable in-house caliber 3055 is ticking confidently away, having been freshly serviced by our watchmaker.
