Founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Ulysse Nardin is known in both the watchmaking and the nautical worlds for its highly accurate, highly complicated marine chronometers, which were used by over fifty of the world’s navies throughout the 1900s. Today, the company produces similarly complicated luxurious timepieces targeted at those who value individuality and character above all else.
The ref. 263-33-7/91 Maxi Marine Diver Chronometer represents a union of functionality and stylish sophistication – a rare combination even for timepieces of this caliber. The frosting on the cake – it is made by one of the most esteemed brands in the world of Haute Horlogerie.
As our photos will testify, the watch’s aesthetics draw inspiration from traditional deck chronometers and so effortlessly communicate its marine theme, as well as the nautical heritage that defines it. The sturdy steel bezel, for example, is adorned with a delicate wave decoration that complements the silvery-white waffle texture of the dial, and the latter’s layout mirror’s that of the aforementioned nautical chronometers. The anti-reflective coating of the crystal, meanwhile, is so immaculate that from certain angles it makes it appear as if there’s no crystal at all! The case is sturdy and robust but is nevertheless masterfully finished, tastefully blending mirror-polished surfaces and marine-themed ornaments. Adding to the already easily-legible dial, the applied SuperLuminova indices and semi-skeletonized hands glow confidently in any environment.
The Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph is powered by the impressive Ulysse Nardin caliber UN-26 – a 28-jewel COSC-certified chronometer movement that operates at 28,800 vph and boasts a power reserve of 48 hours. The solid caseback that protects it lists the 18 gold medals Ulysse Nardin has won (so far).
