Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Chronometer Diver ref. 263-92-3C/924 Black Sea – Superb condition, Box & Papers

Founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Ulysse Nardin is known in both the watchmaking and the nautical worlds for its highly accurate, highly complicated marine chronometers, which were used by over fifty of the world’s navies throughout the 1900s. Today, the company produces similarly complicated luxurious timepieces targeted at those who value individuality and character above all else.
The Maxi Marine Black Sea takes inspiration from the marginal mediterranean offshoot of the Atlantic Ocean that lies between Europe and Asia, and it more than lives up to its name. As our photos have surely informed you, the watch showcases a unique black-on-black-on-black color palette supplemented with a touch of contrast that ensures flawless legibility despite its dark aesthetic. Quite unusually, the 45.8 mm case and rotating bezel owe their color not to a PVD coating but to one of vulcanized rubber that protects them from scratches, dings, and anything in between. In our humble opinion, this technology is far superior to traditional PVD, which has a habit of getting worn down. The wave motif found on the bezel is complemented by a waved dial texture, which in turn serves as the perfect backdrop for a set of bright bright-green (and luminous) hands and indices. Thanks to the comfy rubber-&-steel bracelet and its short lugs, the Black Sea wears like a dream despite its intimidating size.
Inside, generously displayed by the sapphire caseback, the excellent caliber UN-26 – based on the ETA cal. 2892-A2 – is confidently ticking away.
