Although a blacked-out sports watch would be more at home in 2009, the Heritage Black Bay Dark is not a 2009 watch – it is a thoroughly contemporary, undeniably high-end timepiece.
To address the elephant in the room: no, the PVD-coated case doesn’t scratch easily or suffer discoloration due to wear. This isn’t the cheap superficial coating you find on most black watches, but a strong protective layer that qualifies the Black Bay Dark as a fully functional tool watch, should you be inclined to use it as such.
As far as its aesthetics are concerned, the Dark follows the traditional Black Bay formula but cranks the contrast up tо 11. It comes in a satin-finished 41 mm case outfitted with a PVD-coated steel bracelet.
Inside, behind the solid caseback, the in-house caliber MT5602 is confidently ticking away. It operates at 28,800 vph, boasts a power reserve of 70 hours, and is COSC certified.
