Rolex Yacht-Master II Everose Gold & Steel ref. 116681 – 2020, Full set, Polished per OEM specs

Introduced in 1992, the 16622 Yacht-Master has, in a relatively short time, managed to carve out a place for itself among Rolex’s most emblematic models, one that it partly owes to its historical significance. It was, after all, the first new model in the Swiss manufacturer’s catalog since the release of the 1964 Daytona Cosmograph.

The Yacht-Master II was unveiled in 2007 and graced its first Rolex AD in 2010. Less than a year later, the model on offer here, ref. 116681 in Everose Gold and Oystersteel, made its debut. It features one of the rarest and most niche complications out there, the Regatta Timer, which lets the skipper of a yacht determine when they are allowed to set off. You see, boats can’t hover at the starting line quite like cars can, so the skipper needs a reliable way to plan the movement of his vessel after the countdown has commenced. Not only does this complication give the ref. 116681 a grand and unapologetic look, but it also makes it one of the most technically complex Rolexes out there. Couple that with its larger-than-life dimensions (which will nevertheless fit smaller wrists thanks to the curved lugs) and familiar-looking yet enhanced case design, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a striking watch. Outfitted with a comfortable Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock safety clasp, there’s no better timepiece to make you feel like the kind of guy who might, at any given time, find himself involved in a boat race.
The Rolex Yacht-Master II is powered by the in-house 4161, a programmable flyback regatta timer with mechanical memory and on-the-fly synchronization.
