Neither Rolex nor its flagship, the Submariner, needs much in the way of introductions. Suffice it to say that pretty much anyone that’s anyone owns a Sub – from actors and politicians to your friendly neighborhood door-to-door salesman. The elusive concoction of timeless aesthetics and time-proven robustness has elevated the watch to the status of a horological pop icon.
The watch on offer here, the ref. 14060, is the closest thing you can get to the original 1954 Submariner without going vintage.
Just like the original, the 14060 has no date. What it does have is a simpler, cleaner dial, which appeals to those who dislike the asymmetry that the cyclops and the date window bring. The bezel insert of the older aluminum kind – still quite tough but prone to developing patina when exposed to seawater or UV light, giving each specific watch a distinctive look.
The case is the final pre-Super example, retaining the slender, sweeping profile over the far more brawny models of today’s catalog. It’s also the last to feature drilled lugs, which makes this reference all the more sought-after by collectors. Inside, the COSC-certified caliber 3130 is ticking accurately.
Our offering is in good condition – serviced and polished inhouse, shows a minor ding on the glass at 9:30 mark and a scratch on the bezel on 11:30 mark. Comes as watch only its original Oyster bracelet.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
