When the Rolex Milgauss was first introduced in 1956, electronics had already become quite commonplace, and it doesn’t take a physicist to know that whenever an electrical current is present, there’s usually a magnetic field accompanying it. However, whereas most mechanical watches – with all of their metal gears and springs – aren’t too fond of magnets, the Milgauss boasted an anti-magnetic rating of 1000 Gauss, which made it the perfect timepiece for professionals working with and around electronic equipment. Today, the model is often worn by scientists, experimental physicists, and electrical engineers, but it has also proved very popular among watch enthusiasts for whom the likes of the Submariner and the Datejust are just not exciting enough. The Milgauss’ maverick aesthetic is just as vital to its iconic status as are its features, and nowhere is that as easy to see as with the watch on offer here.
The ref. 116400GV comes equipped with a 40 mm steel Oyster case topped by a polished bezel, and it features an electric “Z-Blue” dial protected by a green sapphire crystal. The orange lightning-bolt seconds hand is a nod to the original 1956 model, with the Chromalight indices providing exceptional legibility no matter the lighting conditions. Inside, behind the plain caseback, the in-house caliber 3131 is ticking per spec.
Our offering is in excellent condition – just polished by OEM specs, comes as watch only, and is outfitted with its original three-piece Oyster bracelet with polished inner and brushed outer links. Ticking per specs.
