Designed to enable the wearer to tell the time in two different time zones simultaneously, the GMT-Master was developed as a navigation instrument for professionals traveling the globe. Its combination of effortless functionality, robustness, and instantly-recognizable aesthetics has made it a horological and cultural icon, which, over the last few decades, has blossomed into one of Rolex’s most diverse collections.
The watch on offer here – the GMT-Master ref. 16700 – is the last iteration of the original GMT-Master (I). More recent examples of the GMT-Master (the II) come equipped with Rolex’s high-tech Cerachrom insert, but, since the 16700 dates back to 1991, so it sports an aluminum bezel. While Cerachrom is smoother and shinier, many enthusiasts prefer the classic aluminum version for its deeper, richer colors – and rightly so, if we do say so ourselves. As you probably know, the red segment represents daytime hours, while the blue segment indicates nighttime hours. The ref. 16700 boasts a stainless steel case that strikes the perfect balance between size and weight. It makes the GMT function very comfortable to use, which in turn makes this watch one of the best travel companions you could hope for. What’s more, the 16700 is perfectly happy to go from the airport to the boardroom and fits right at home with a shirt or a suit. It is powered by the time-proven calibre 3175 – a self-winding superlative chronometer GMT movement.
Our offering is in very good condition considering its age and comes equipped with its original Oyster bracelet – again in very decent condition.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
