Created in 1945, the Datejust was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date at the 3 o’clock position. Its pioneering aesthetic has since had an enormous cultural impact and, along with its revolutionary features, has elevated the model to the status of a horological icon. To put it plainly, the Datejust is the seminal classic watch.
The version on offer here – ref. 116333 – represents a contemporary take on the timeless concept. This specific dial variation is known as the Wimbledon because of the similarity its colorway carries to that of the eponymous tournament’s logo, and it is surely among the most sought-after. What makes the ref. 116333 even more desirable to collectors, however, is its use of a gold bezel, hands and logo, and center links to complement the Wimbledon dial.
At a balanced 41 mm – and outfitted with its original Oyster bracelet – the watch wears like a dream, fitting snugly under any cuff. Thanks to the new concealed attachment system, the sleek bracelet transitions seamlessly into the case.
The ref. 116333 is powered by the latest-generation caliber – the 3236 self-winding movement, which boasts a power reserve of 70 hours and features Paraflex shock absorbers, a Parachrom Blue hairspring, a Chronenergy escapement, and a Paramagnetic Oscillator balance.
