Fifty-eight years ago, Wally Schirra rode his one-man Mercury spacecraft dubbed “Sigma 7” into orbit and became the fifth American in space. His 9-hour mission was the longest until then and set the stage for the fourth and final flight of the Mercury Program. The watch on offer here draws inspiration directly from the one worn by Shirra and reprises its classic look.
The Speedmaster Moonwatch “First Omega in Space” numbered edition comes outfitted with a varnished black dial, which features a small seconds subdial, 30-minute and 12-hour recorders, and a central chronograph hand. As an additional tribute to the original, both baton and Alpha style hands have been used. The black tachymetric bezel is mounted on a 39.7 mm stainless steel case with symmetric lugs, which utilizes a mixture of brushed and mirror-polished surfaces. The watch is powered by the calibre 1861 – the famous manually-wound movement worn on the Moon. It is protected by a solid caseback embossed with the original 1962 Seahorse.
Our offering is in very good condition – shows only some marks on the lugs from strap changes. Comes in full set of the original Numbered Edition box and cards.
