While brands like Rolex and Omega have garnered acclaim that has made them known to practically everyone, there’s a family of manufacturers that have remained somewhat less popular yet are just as highly valued – if not more so – by many enthusiasts. The watch on offer here was made by the very head of that family – Jaeger-LeCoultre. Due to its history of creating high-quality movements, parts, and tools for the likes of Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, and Patek Philippe, JLC is often referred to as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker”.
The watch on offer here – the Amvox 2 Chronograph – stands as proof that the brand has all but lost its mojo. And yes, you did read that right – this is indeed a chronograph. Where, then, are the pushers, you may ask? Well, there are no pushers. Instead, pressing the watch on your wrist at 12 o’clock starts the chrono, and pressing it at 6 o’clock stops it – gnarly, we know. Just make sure that the switch on the left side of the case is set to the correct position. As far as the aesthetics of the piece are concerned – they effortlessly communicate the sporty inspiration behind it, as they do its ties to the luxurious automobile manufacturer. Nevertheless, the spirit of the long-lived Memovox still shines through in both the dial layout and the steel case’s shape, embuing the watch with an undeniable elegance.
Inside, tucked away behind the Aston Martin logo, the brilliant in-house caliber 751E is ticking away, unaffected by the comings and goings of the world outside.
