Founded in 1955, Montres Corum Sàrl – commonly referred to simply as Corum – is known for its high-quality limited edition watches. While many companies have tried and failed at the Limited Edition business model, Corum has not only succeeded, it has garnered critical acclaim along the way. This is largely due to the unique aesthetic and bold design of its watches, which draw inspiration from everything from sporting events to historical figures and mythical creatures.
The model on offer here gets its name, Seafender, from a combination of two words – Sea and Defender. The latter word might have something to do with the size and shape of the 46 mm shield-like dodecagonal (or 12-sided) titanium case, or it might have something to do with the watch’s impressive technical capabilities. More specifically, the Seafender is a certified chronometer, boasts a WR-rating of 300 meters, features a Helium-escape valve, and provides peerless legibility in any setting thanks to its use of SuperLuminova lume.
Since it was inspired by the Admiral’s Cup regatta, the Admiral’s Cup Seafender rightfully commemorates the prestigious race by incorporating inverted nautical flags on its inner bezel, to which the sword-shaped hands point. The beautiful lacquered dial features a date and weekday display at 3 o’clock complemented by a small-seconds indicator at 9 o’clock.
Last but not least, the Seafender is powered by the caliber CO 947 – a COSC-certified 25-jewel automatic movement with a power reserve of 48 hours.
