Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 26133ST.OO.A101CR.01 Shaquille O’Neal Special – Blacken DLC coated, Basketball box

A worthy successor to the legacy of its older Royal Oak brother, the Offshore Chronograph is an experience that is hard to put into words – and that’s a good thing. Just like its predecessor, the model represents a deep yearning for the future, but it nevertheless looks to the past – to its rich history and the legacy it is part of – with the highest respect.
The SHAQ, reference 26133ST.OO.A101CR.01, is as monumental as the person it pays homage to – 4-time NBA Champion Shaquille O’Neal. It measures in at a staggering 48 mm, which makes for a wholly singular wearing experience, and it incorporates several details that tie it to the eponymous basketball star, the most notable of which are the red inverted 3 and 2 o’clock markers. The latter are a reference to the number 32 jersey that Shaq was wearing when he became the first-ever player to be awarded Player of The Week status during his debut week in the NBA. Over his rookie season, O’Neal averaged 23.4 points on 56.2% shooting, 13.9 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game.
Other than the design variations, the SHAQ is pretty much what you would expect – a timepiece meticulously toiled over until the very essence of perfection was attained. Every surface, seen or unseen, has received the utmost care and attention, resulting in a level of finishing that challenges perception. The black Méga Tappisserie dial defies reality with its flawlessness, and so do its white gold indices and hands. The complex geometry of the hefty case, meanwhile, gives the watch a four-dimensional presence, which its beveled edges expertly soften. The cherry on top would have to be the hornback strap – it is surprisingly restrained, allowing the bold watch to take center stage. Housed within the latter, the cal. 3126/3840 movement is ticking and churning tirelessly, evoking the image of a mighty engine.
Our offering is in excellent condition and comes with its original basketball-shaped box but without any papers. It is one of only 960 pieces produced and, to our knowledge, the only one to have been DLC coated by Blacken. Ticking per specs.

The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
