Founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, Switzerland, Chopard is best known for its high-end watches and masterfully-crafted jewellery. The brand has long had a tendency to blur the line between the two, however, which has resulted in an array of exquisite, often avant-garde timepieces. The one on offer here, the Alpine Eagle, stands as the manufacturer’s first foray into the world of integrated-bracelet luxury sports watches, and it is undeniably an impressive horological achievement.
Still, some will surely accuse the Alpine Eagle of being too derivative since it resembles the Royal Oak and the Nautilus, yet that wouldn’t be entirely fair. On the contrary, this model is backed by a rich history of its own – it represents a reinterpretation of the 1980 Saint Moritz, which Karl-Friedrich Scheufele conceived at the tender age of 22.
Envisioned and personally designed by him, the Alpine Eagle draws inspiration from Karl-Friedrich’s passion for the Alps and his admiration for the royal eagle that rules over them. As is evidenced by the gorgeous textured dial – which could give Grand Seiko a good run for their money – it more than lives up to the standards of Haute Horology. The case, meanwhile, is flawlessly constructed and finished, blending finely-brushed and mirror-polished surfaces, which together emphasize its exceptional architecture. The same goes for the bracelet, which stands out as one of the most comfortable and ergonomic ones we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing.
At a balanced 41 mm in diameter, the watch wears remarkably lightly and will effortlessly fit under the tightest of cuffs.
Inside, proudly showcased by the sapphire caseback, the beautiful Chopard 01.01-C is ticking tranquily away.
Our offering is in superb condition – just polished per OEM specs, but – regrettably – comes only with its box – no papers. It is outfitted with its OEM bracelet, which mirrors the finishing of the case.
Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
