While the G-Shock was originally designed as a humble tool watch, it has evolved into something of a fashion statement over the last two decades. Let there be no mistake, however – it still retains the qualities that make it the perfect watch to wrap around your wrist when chopping wood, working on your car, or trekking up a mountain, but both its functionalities and its aesthetics have undergone major transformations.

The Full Metal Red can be best described as a reinvention of the 1983′ DW-5000C. Its emblematic square case echoes that of its distant predecessor, but it is fashioned out of steel and equipped with the latest in shock-resistant technology. Its red IP-coating makes it exceptionally scratch-resistant and, together with its weightiness and black-on-black display, gives it a decisively premium feel. Further contributing to the scratch-resistance of the piece is the mineral crystal, whose non-reflective coating offers enhanced readability. The iconic brick-pattern around the dial is, in reality, a panel for the solar-charged battery that powers the watch’s various functions. These include Bluetooth Smart, Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time Calibration, World Time with 39 Time Zones, 12/24-Hour Timekeeping, 5 Daily Alarms, Timer, 1/100-Stopwatch, Power Saving, and Auto-Calendar to the year 2099.
