Spotted out in the wild, a Breitling tends to conjure up thoughts of aircraft, flight suits, and instrument panels. The brand has been anything but shy about celebrating its ties to aviation – ties tracing back to the iconic Navitimer that debuted in 1952 – and has tirelessly extolled them in order to cement its legacy. Parts of Breitling’s line-up, however, indicate a more dynamic, more varied approach to watchmaking. Take the stopwatch on offer here.
This Breitling Chronoslide ref. 1577 dates back to circa 1967.
It sports a black and white reverse-panda dial with a silver seconds subdial, which gives the piece its distinctive sporty look. The panda and reverse-panda color schemes have historically been associated with motorsports racing, thanks in large part to Rolex’s Daytona and Heuer’s Autavia.
The acrylic glass is mounted on a black plastic bezel that operates the slide-rule – a feature that Willy Breitling introduced with the Chronomat in the late 1940s.
The case is made of chromed steel and measures ~60 mm across. Overall, the piece is quite well-preserved, with a few nicks and scratches on the case and the caseback.
This Breitling Chronoslide is powered by the rare in-house cal. 320 – a precise 7-jewel movement. It was serviced in 06.2021 by our master watchmaker and is ticking accurately.
Covered by a limited warranty of 6 months, starting on the date of purchase.
