Breitling SA was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling – a passionate and innovative watchmaker known for his sharp business sense. In 1915 – barely a year after he had passed – his son, Gaston, proved he had inherited his father’s pioneering spirit by introducing one of the first-ever wrist chronographs with a separate push-piece above the crown. The brand’s innovations continued well into the 1940s, and in 1952 – with Willy Breitling in the driver’s (or rather pilot’s) seat – the Navitimer made its debut. The iconic model proved extremely popular among pilots, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers and would later come to signify the beginning of Breitling’s avionic legacy.
The watch on offer here is not only a worthy successor to that legacy but quite possibly THE essential modern Navitimer.
The ref. A24322 dates to 2007 and has been one of the most sought-after and praised Breitling models since its release. Now, we won’t blame you if you’re as skeptical of its 46 mm size as we ourselves once were, but believe us – there is simply no better size for this watch. It is downright uncanny how well it fits wrists of more or less any size, and with that much real estate, it is just impossible to ignore. Additionally, its more-generous proportions make its fine details – of which there are a great many – all that easier to appreciate. The beautiful polished finish, the mate black dial, and the numerous colorful accents and flourishes are all excellent reasons to love this watch, but they barely scratch the surface. Taking a closer peep, one realizes that this timepiece is a remarkable composition of immaculate elements, which can only be appreciated up close and personal. Thankfully, our photos will make that a lot easier to do.
The ref. A24322 is powered by the impressive Breitling cal. 24, which boasts a power reserve of 42 hours and features a second time-zone complication and a 1/4th of a second chronograph function, among other things.
