Breitling SA was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling – a passionate and innovative watchmaker known for his sharp business sense. In 1915 – barely a year after he had passed – his son, Gaston, proved he had inherited his father’s pioneering spirit by introducing one of the first-ever wrist chronographs with a separate push-piece above the crown. The brand’s innovations continued well into the following decades, and in 1952 – with Willy Breitling in the driver’s (or rather pilot’s) seat – the Navitimer made its debut. The model proved extremely popular among pilots and aircraft manufacturers and would later come to signify the beginning of Breitling’s avionic legacy.
The watch on offer here – the Seawolf II – is one of the many modern faces of that same legacy. As such, it incorporates some of the brand’s most characteristic design flourishes and technical features. The 45 mm case, for example, is covered in the traditional blend of brushed and polished surfaces, and it is topped by the unmistakable uni-directional bezel ornamented with riders. Thanks to the latter’s rugged design and the grip pattern on the crown, the Seawolf II can be easily operated while wearing gloves, which is a major point of pride for the brand. After all, military pilots don’t tend to operate bare-handed.
The dial is adorned with applied stencil-styled numerals and features luminous indexes at 12, 6, and 9, with a date display at 3 o’clock balancing out the layout.
Inside, protected by the ornamented screw-in caseback, the Breitling Caliber B17 is ticking resolutely away.
Our offering is in superb condition, but – regrettably – comes only with its box – no papers. It is outfitted with its OEM bracelet, which mirrors the finishing of the case.
Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
