In 1952, the French government established the ”Nageuers de combat” – an elite cadre of combat swimmers whose missions included underwater intelligence, sabotage operations, and covert warfare, to name but a few. Their captain, Bob Maloubier, understood that his team needed a robust watch capable of withstanding the exacting tasks they were performing, so he drew up a rough design for one and approached Blancpain. One thing led to another, and, in 1953 – a full year before the Submariner would be revealed at the Basel Watch Fair – the Fifty Fathoms was born. The rest, as they say, is history.
The watch on offer represents a more modern take on the iconic original. The Fifty Fathoms Automatique 5015 comes equipped with a sleek, mirror-polished case, which ensures that the watch is just as stylish on the outside as it’s resilient on the inside. Both the curved sapphire bezel and the minimalist dial are highly reminiscent of those of the original Fifty Fathoms, but their execution is more than up to contemporary standards. Thanks to the generously applied C3 SuperLumiNova – and as befits a professional instrument of this caliber – the watch is easily legible even in the most extreme lighting conditions. The Fifty Fathoms Automatique 5015 is powered by the in-house cal. 1315 – a 35-jewel antimagnetic automatic movement that ticks at 28,000 vibrations per hour, features a silicon balance spring, and boasting a power reserve of 120 hours. Our offering is in excellent condition with minimal to no visible wear. Comes in a very full set of all the boxes, papers, and manuals, on its original sailcloth canvas strap.
Still covered by manufacturer’s international warranty (started in 11.2019).
