The BALL Watch Company started making watches in 1891, and it has been upholding the most demanding benchmarks of accuracy and reliability ever since. Couple that with a history closely linked to the American railways and throw in a remarkable quality-to-price ratio, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a bargain. The aforementioned history, in case you’re wondering, has to do with BALL’s contribution to establishing the accuracy standard for pocket watches used by train conductors across the American frontier (a.k.a. the Old West), which singlehandedly reduced train accidents by upwards of 95%.
The Hydrocarbon Spacemaster, however, has its sights set on another frontier, the final one – outer space itself. To put it plainly, it’s a tool watch fit for the tasks a Space Marine might face. As such, it comes equipped with a robust 41.5 mm stainless steel case that is shock-resistant up to 7,500Gs (or about 2500 times what a rocket launch entails, just to be safe) and water-resistant up to 10 ATM. It also lends the watch an impressive magnetic resistance of 12000A/m, ensuring its accuracy around electromagnetic fields caused by powerful currents, geomagnetic storms, and solar winds. The handsomely textured dial features 28 microtubes filled with tritium gas that illuminate both the hour markers and the hands and provide perfect legibility in the darkest of environments, without the need for sun exposure. It’s worth mentioning that this technology is employed by very few modern manufacturers and is therefore considered something of a brand trademark. Last but not least, the distinct crown guard is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional, and – together with the all-steel rotating bezel – it underscores the piece’s utilitarian aesthetic.
The Hydrocarbon Spacemaster is powered by the chronometer-certified BALL caliber RR1102C. Functions include Hours, Minutes, Seconds, and Date.
Our offering is in very good condition, was sold by us new in 2021, but previous owner lost the papers so now it comes with its box and booklet, but without the manufacturers warranty cards.
