A worthy successor to the legacy of its older Royal Oak brother, the Offshore Chronograph is an experience that is hard to put into words – and that’s a good thing. Just like its predecessor, the model represents a deep yearning for the future, but it nevertheless looks to the past – to the rich history it is part of – with the highest respect.
The Special Edition on offer here is dedicated to racing legend Juan Pablo Montoya, and – as our photos will testify – its design echoes his legacy. As one would expect, every little detail on this timepiece has been meticulously toiled over until the very essence of perfection was achieved, and never has this been easier to appreciate than on this particular example. Even though it dates to the distant 2006, it is in immaculate mint condition, showing no hairline marks, wear, or aging of any kind. Elements like the tailpipe-styled chronograph pushers, the colorful sub-dial hands, and the carbon fiber bezel tie the piece to the racing aesthetic that underpins its existence, and the dial presents a beautiful reinterpretation of the reality-defying Méga Tappisserie texture.
Behind the latter and visible via the sapphire caseback, the AP Calibre 2226/2840 automatic chronograph movement is ticking resolutely away.
The watch is very rare mint condition, was very well taken care of by the original first owner and is ticking per specs. Comes in a full set of boxes and papers and is outfitted with its original cross-stitched leather strap – yet another nod to the F1 aesthetic.
The watch is covered by 1 year of limited warranty from ChronoTimepieces.
